Hackathons such as the “Jenathon” or the “JenaVsVirus” camp have already helped raise awareness among civil society about the city’s challenges and encouraged active collaboration on solutions. This format is being further developed to create digital solutions in collaboration with experts from business, academia, government, and the local community.

- First hackathon organized and held in June 2023 in collaboration with Lichtwerkstatt and Friedrich Schiller University, focusing on the theme: “Urban Data Platform & Sensor Technology”
- Launch of the “Open Bike Sensors” project (currently being implemented by ADFC)
- Second hackathon in June 2025 in cooperation with Lichtwerkstatt Jena, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and the Thuringian Center for Learning Systems and Robotics (TZLR), with a focus on artificial intelligence
- Continuation of projects currently under review
- Third hackathon successfully held on June 12 and 13, 2026
