Establishment of a 3D Tool for Urban Planning and Development Projects
In the Jena urban area, available space is limited, and there are varying demands regarding land use, environmental and resource protection, and the needs of citizens. Therefore, forward-looking and transparent planning and development of the urban space are essential.
A 3D visualization tool is to be developed for urban planning and development: This tool will enable the physical and spatial conditions and relevant influencing factors—such as sunlight exposure, shadow cast, sightlines, noise pollution, and flood zones—to be clearly visualized and analyzed. This modern tool allows complex interrelationships to be presented more precisely and communicated more effectively.

- Cooperation agreement with three additional municipalities to develop and implement a 3D viewer for the municipal map portal
- Additional contract awarded regarding rights management/authentication
- Basic functionalities of the QGIS Web Client’s 3D tool have been developed and successfully tested
Development and testing of a digital citizen participation format
Digital representations of the urban landscape that clearly illustrate planning and development options are well-suited for participation and co-determination processes in urban society. Analog participation formats can thus be usefully supplemented with new digital forms of collaboration. The goal is to engage many citizens using modern and appealing formats.
The data required for this task is provided by the urban data platform “WISSENsAllmende.” The “Jena Digital Werkstadt” innovation and experimentation space will be used to develop new digital participation formats.
