Dr. Björn Walther strengthens Jena Smart City project as Open Data Coach
We've had a new Smartie since mid-April! We are delighted to welcome Dr. Björn Walther to the Smart City team: he is initially joining us as a parental leave replacement for Katharina Dengler, but will remain with us as a permanent colleague afterwards. With his diverse background, Björn brings valuable expertise and fresh impetus to the topic of open data and urban data platforms.

Björn Walther studied business administration at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, specializing in business informatics (2004-2010), where he also completed his doctorate in economics (2010-2018). At the same time, he worked for over a decade in quality management at Google (2007-2020) before becoming a freelance consultant for statistical methods as well as an author and YouTube content creator (since 2017).
In the Smart City project, Björn will play a key role in designing training courses on open data and supporting urban stakeholders in improving their data management. He is also committed to actively involving citizens in shaping the digital city and thus creating opportunities for participation.
A particular focus is on the development of the urban data platform WISSENSAllmende, which is intended to serve as a central interface for open and transparent data in Jena.
We are delighted to have Björn on board - here's to an exciting time, lots of smart ideas and, of course, great collaboration!
