Smart Quarter Jena-Lobeda sub-measure:
"Establishment and operation of healthcare apartments"

The Smart Quarter is located in the immediate vicinity of Jena University Hospital (UKJ). Initially, two healthcare apartments will be set up for outpatients and day patients of the UKJ who do not live in Jena, as well as patients who are waiting for follow-up treatment after an inpatient stay or are being cared for in transitional care, and their relatives. These low-barrier rooms are modern and functionally equipped, but also offer a homely atmosphere. They enable nursing, telemedical and telephysiotherapeutic care through innovative technologies such as smart home applications with voice control, care beds, height-adjustable kitchen, emergency system, rentable electric wheelchair, smart TV, support and information robots as well as a telemedicine room. A care service can be called in if required. The healthcare apartments serve as a short-term care option between an inpatient hospital stay and the patient's own home, for which there is great demand. As with the telemedicine room, the aim is to test processes, structures and equipment features in order to establish an economically viable and transferable model.
