Experience smart Jena: Excursion for employees
On September 10, around 40 employees from the city administration and the municipal enterprises took the opportunity to get to know the Jena Smart City project in a very practical way. Three stations were the focus of the joint excursion - and they made it clear how diverse the work has been since 2020 and how it is already enriching everyday life in our city.
Station 1: Smart neighborhood
This is where we test what living and health could look like in the future. The telemedicine room and the healthcare apartments were particularly impressive, showing how modern technology can support people in their everyday lives - whether through digital consultation hours or networked assistance systems.
Station 2: Tasting shop
In the middle of the city center, directly opposite the new Ernst Abbe Library and the Citizens' Service, the participants were able to get to know the tasting store. Here, citizens can try out basic digital skills and learn new things at any time without registering - from safe use of smartphones and tablets to practical online applications.
Station 3: JEDI
The final station was the JEDI - a place for exchange, collaboration and new ideas. Administration, business, science and urban society come together here to work together on solutions for the "city of tomorrow". Over drinks and light snacks, the participants took the opportunity to chat and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere.
Conclusion of the excursion
The excursion showed: The Smart City project lives not only from concept papers and strategies, but above all from many concrete ideas that have already been implemented. The participants were able to take a look behind the scenes, discuss with the project teams and gain an impression of how things could continue after the end of the funding phase.
The feedback was consistently positive - a successful afternoon that whetted the appetite for more joint shaping of Jena's digital future. Many thanks to all participants and cooperation partners who provided insights and answered questions, as well as to the colleagues who made participation possible.
Smart City Jena is not a promise for the future, but can already be experienced today.
