Information event on pedestrian frequency measurement in Jena's city center

Datum
Uhrzeit
17:00 ~ 19:00

How many people are actually out and about in Jena's city center and when - and how are the streams of visitors distributed? To gain a better understanding of this, the city of Jena is planning an anonymized pedestrian frequency measurement in future.

It is important to note that no people are recognized, no images are stored and no personal data is recorded. The sensors used will only count anonymous streams of movement.

When and where?

On February 11, 2026 from 5 p.m. at:

JEDI - Jena Digital Innovation Hub
Engelplatz 8
07743 Jena

What is the event about?

In a public information event, the Smart City Team Jena will transparently present the project for pedestrian frequency measurement in the city center: How does the measurement actually work? What technology is used - and why is it compliant with data protection regulations? And what questions do citizens have about it? The aim is to explain in an understandable way how the number of people moving around the city centre and the distribution of visitor flows will be recorded in future - without identifying individuals or storing personal data.

We also show what the data obtained can be used for - for example, for urban development and better planning, strengthening trade and the city centre, tourism and the organization of events and visitor guidance.

Among others, we will be joined by:

  • Benjamin Koppe, Mayor and Head of the Digitalization Department
  • Kai Kellermeier, Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, Lemgo
  • Katja Eisenschmidt, City Manager Initiative Innenstadt Jena e.V.
  • Kay Freytag, Project Manager Smart City Project Mühlhausen
