Telemedicine room in Jena-Lobeda nominated for Telemedicine Prize 2026
The city of Jena is delighted about the nationwide recognition of its innovative telemedicine project in the Smart Quarter Jena-Lobeda. In the competition for the Telemedicine Prize 2026 of the German Society for Telemedicine, the telemedicine room achieved a strong 5th place among a total of seven nominated projects from all over Germany.
The telemedicine room is an example of modern and citizen-oriented healthcare. The aim of the project is to bring medical services directly into the neighborhoods and thus create low-threshold access to care. At the same time, the concept helps to noticeably relieve the burden on existing healthcare structures.
"The placement shows that Jena's approach is being recognized nationwide and is providing important answers to current challenges in the healthcare sector," explains the city administration. The jury was particularly impressed by the combination of digital innovation, practical suitability for everyday use and social participation.
The nomination makes the telemedicine room in Jena-Lobeda one of the most visible telemedicine projects in Germany. At the same time, the award underlines the model's potential for other regions. The city is already working with its partners to transfer the concept to other locations, including Crossen an der Elster.
The city of Jena sees the recognition as both a confirmation and an incentive: in future, telemedicine should be even more available where it is needed - close to home, uncomplicated and future-oriented.
