Smart City expert group meeting: focus on the MeinJena app
On September 1, 2025, the Smart City expert group met for the first time at JEDI. The focus was on the city app MeinJena: its current functions, the success of its use and ideas for future enhancements.
Current functions and use
To kick things off, Christina Hentschel from Stadtwerke Jena presented the app as a "digital mirror image" of numerous services - from ticket purchases and news to route planners. TD Software also presented the latest figures:
- 46.200 quarterly active users
- 8.000 daily active users
- 184.000 downloads since the launch
The route planner, current news and ticket booking are currently in particularly high demand. The app also allows users to link to the energy customer portal or book wellness offers at Galaxsea.
Workshop: Ideas for the future
In the subsequent workshop, the specialist group collected suggestions for new features. Discussions included
- greater involvement of municipal companies
- linking to other municipal services and participation formats
- the expansion of information pillars that are to be connected via the MeinJena middleware
Outlook: MeinJena app working group
As a result of the meeting, a separate working group was set up to further develop the app. It is to further develop the ideas from the workshop and intensify cooperation with municipal partners.
Next topic: LoRaWAN and IoT
The next meeting of the Smart City expert group is planned for the first quarter of 2026. The focus will then be on LoRaWAN and the Internet of Things (IoT).
