Jena at the 7th MPSC Congress in Kiel - Continuity as a central leitmotif

On November 18 and 19, 2025, the Smart City Jena model project took part in the 7th MPSC Congress in Kiel. The motto of this year's event was "City - country - end of pilots: Successfully Consolidating Smart City" and offered a varied program with specialist presentations, practical examples and topic-specific exchange formats. The congress brought together 200 representatives from cities, municipalities and regions to discuss sustainable approaches to digital transformation.

Intensive discussions and valuable professional exchange

The intensive exchange that was possible during the congress deserves special mention. In numerous discussions with other municipalities, specialist organizations and project managers, we gained insights into experiences already gained in the consolidation of measures. We are returning with many professional suggestions that will provide valuable impetus for our own projects.

Continuation as an overarching topic for the future - and as a focus of our own work

A central theme of the congress was the question of how smart city projects can be successfully transferred into permanent municipal operations. This aspect is also playing an increasingly important role in our municipality. The examples presented from completed model projects showed us which structures - organizational, technical and strategic - are necessary to make digital innovations effective in the long term. Many of the approaches presented there address issues that we are also currently working on, such as the establishment of reliable data structures, the institutional anchoring of digital skills and the further development of our strategic direction.

Relevant impetus for further development

Our participation in the MPSC Congress in Kiel once again highlighted how important intermunicipal exchange is for successfully shaping the digital transformation. We were able to deepen existing contacts, build new networks and identify specific starting points that we will continue to pursue in the coming year. The insights gained will help us to further develop our smart city work in a targeted manner and to consistently continue the processes of consolidation that have already begun.

We would like to thank the organizers of the congress for the successful event and look forward to incorporating the impetus gained into our future work.
